COMPETITION INFORMATION
What is Competition?
Competitions are exciting events for dancers to show their skill and performance abilities. These events are regional, national and international events. Teams compete for trophies, titles and cash prizes. Studio M Dance Academy will only be competing in local competitions in 2010-2011 unless all participating families agree to do an overnight travel competition such as Branson or St. Louis .
Who is eligible to Compete?
Students who wish to compete will be evaluated the first week of classes and placed in the proper competition class by age and ability. Classes may be added to the schedule based on response. Please speak to you instructor if you are interested in competing.
Time and Commitment Required?
Competing requires commitment from both the child and the parents . Each child enrolling in competition classes must attend 95% of all scheduled classes, every scheduled community performance and every selected competition. The commitment is not only made to the studio and instructor but also the other participating children and families. Students must also keep their grades at a C average or above. Parents and instructors need to work closely together to help each and every child succeed.
Competition day can be a fun and exciting all day event or just a few hours. Schedules are distributed by the Competition Organizations about a week before the scheduled event. Times and dates are always subjected to change and can be anytime morning or evening, Friday thru Sunday.
What does it cost to compete?
Each competition has an entry fee that is due two months before the date of the competition. Fees range from $29 to $38 per entry. Costumes are purchased in November for the competition season. Costume cost range from $65 to $120 depending on the costume selected. Costumes are voted on by the parents and instructors. These costumes will also be used for the year end recital and community shows. All students participating will be required to purchase a Studio M Dance Academy Jacket to wear at competitions as cover ups. Fund Raisers will be available to help reduce expenses. Funds raised by students and/or parents will be applied to that students competition cost.
Extra Practices?
Before competition season begins we may schedule a few extra practices, there is no addition charge for extra practices.
